Hi there - This idea came to me the other day.
CONCEPT:
To use a haze/fog machine to shoot a very minimal amount of haze into the airport area during the night scene. (Hardly enough to be noticeable on its own)
REASON/EFFECT:
1) Incorporate an Airport Rotating Beacon at the airport (A bright rotating light) - and the haze effect will let those in the room to see the beam cut across the room.
2) Incorporate BRIGHT landing lights on the aircraft's themselves. Again the haze will highlight the beam of light and in my opinion create a very neat effect.
3) The haze may give a night time fog feel depending how much is in the room.
4) Any other lights will give a nice glow.
IMPLEMENTATION:
A high end water-based haze machine would work best. High end units have very precise control on haze output and can programmed directly on the unit, by an external control or via a computer (through a DMX signal)
TRIALS:
One would have to try this out to see if it would give the desired effect. In my mind it works. I do lighting for concerts and events and the haze machine does this exact thing. Small particles (the haze) reflect the light so a visible beam is seen. Water based haze is non-toxic and doesn't leave an oily residue. Cooled haze, or low lying haze may work better in this situation to keep it more controlled.
Any thoughts???
My wife and I are traveling to Europe and will be checking out miniatur-wunderland on August 21! Can't wait!
