Hi. I've been thinking about getting some Trix C track and was wondering if anybody else is using it? I've heard that it's received some great reviews in model railway magazines.

Will larger locomotives such as 4-6-2 loco's work on the Radius 1 (360mm radius) curves?

Thanks

Hi!

I use Märklin C track and I think it's great (Märklin C track is the 3-rail version of Trix C track which is 2-rail).

There are only very few Trix locos that won't run on R1 (E 19.0 is the only one that comes to my mind).

There are some Roco steamers (and the RAm) that require at least R2 (and this information is in the product leaflet only and cannot be found in the product database).

I don't use R1 on my main tracks. Trains look better, run more reliable - and I can use all models I like.

Thanks Tom. I think I'll go ahead with the R1 and R2 combination.

The main reason I'm considering R1 curves is because Trix only make R1 to R2 curved turnouts/points. They seem a lot easier to integrate into a layout that straight points which need 2 x 177mm straight pieces when 2 points are used together (it's a similar situation with Roco points).

It's a shame they don't change the geometry so points can be used with ordinary 188mm straights :(

It's not a bug, it's a feature: 188 mm at a 24° angle is as long as 172 mm at a 0° angle.

With M track they made very short pieces to compensate for this difference (caused by the angle). With C track, such short pieces cannot be made and instead the two different lengths 172 and 188 make up for the difference.

The curved turnouts are R1/R1. If you use them, you'll have R1 on both inner and outer circles, so you can only run locos compatible with 360 mm radius.

I might try using Roco Geoline as they make an R3 turnout. I prefer the look of the Trix turnouts though.

Thanks Thirsty1 Work. Perhaps I'll stick with Trix R1 after all :)
