How can you claim to be the largest? when the largest is right here in my country and my state. Northlandz has over 8 miles of track and is in the Guinness book of records as the largest.

"World's Largest… " can be a group bigger than just one -- biggest, longest, tallest, longest train, most rolling stock, etc. It really depends on what criteria you choose to use. MW has 890 trains with 11000 railcars (summer 2010) while Northlandz has 100 trains, less than any one of the 7 main sections of MW. While Northlandz's layout is certainly impressive, MW's is an order of magnitude larger, and I believe both have added to our world!

In fact, the Northlandz layout may very well have been one that inspired the Brothers in Germany back in 2001. We don't have anything like it here in Connecticut.

The building map/guide [http://www.miniatur-wunderland.com/uploads/media/dv-reisefuehrer-en-a3_01.pdf] shows the massive extent of MW.

Quiness site returns null when searched. Site search may not be working.
Google search includes Northlandz in its top 5 list: http://modelrailwaytrains.org/model-railway-trains/5-of-the-worlds-largest-model-railways/

OK, Northlandz is larger with respect to length of tracks and area of layout.

MiWuLa has more trains - and maybe more visitors.
IIRC they used to claim to be the largest digital MRR in the world.

Searching the Guiness record database I had 0 hits for "northlandz" and 1 hit for "Wunderland".

Frederik Braun wrote in the German MiWuLa Forum that the Northlandz layout is just 750 square metres (MiWuLa 1300 square metres).
It seems that the 52000 square feet named on the Northlandz website are the complete area of all buildings (which is also less than the 6000 square metres occupied by MiWuLa).

So maybe Northlandz should remove the Guiness logo and the "st" from "largest" next time they update their site.

Here's the story about Frederick's inspiration back in 2000. Comparing the (internet) pictures of both model railroads I can hardly see any similarities between their concept or philosophy whatsoever.

I agree with you. I was trying to soften my response by saying it may have been one; I did not say that it was one, or the one. Go back and read my post again -- it's obvious I'm a MiWuLa fan.

I'm sorry if my answer sounded offensive. That hadn't been my intention at all.

Until very recently Miwula held the Guinness title "longest Railroad", which it lost, then regained and just a month ago lost again to the Wilmington RR. Congratulations to the UK!

But I'd rather look into a beer than a book named Guinness

Interesting, but a bit misleading. The record (s) mentioned are for "longest railroad train", as is evident when the links are followed, not size of layout as we have been discussing.
Also, the Wilmington mentioned is in North Carolina, USA, not the UK, and has only, "Total installed track: 1200 ft".
