I am coming to Hamburg in November. I plan on spending a whole day at Miniatur Wunderland but also wanted to do some real train trainspotting. Can any recommend a place to go to watch high speed trains? When I was a little kid my dad used to take me to Sprotze but I don't know if that is the right place anymore. Thanks for any help you can provide!

Hi sudprop,
if you want not only ICEs but also some other action, I'd recommend the bridge over Maschen shunting ( classification ) yard.

The best spot for me always was the crossover going off the Maschener Schützenstrasse (next to Marker A in the plan). If you walk almost to the far side of the crossover, you can watch ICE-action and commuter trains on the main; a few steps back is the shunting action. A light tele lens is of advantage.

Good luck,
Erhard
