G´day all,
I chose the title in order to give my NR Class locomotives a piece of home, Aussie of course.
I build the diorama after a lot of memories from my trip to Down Under.

A piece of wood was round and it´s one meter long and half a meter wide. After I glued a frame under it, I used a piece of insulation foam for the landscape which I found as left-over from my German layout. Image
I saw out some pieces and give it a workover with a file until I am happy with the landscape. For tracks I used Märklin K flexi tracks, because the tracks are looking really new, that you don´t see offend. With the help of the Air Brush and a bit Paint (rust) the tracks are weathered. Image
The landscape was also coloured with Paint (terracotta) what I think comes the closest you can get to soil in the outback. Image
Till the next day I let the colour dry and was looking for stuff which could be placed on the layout. A building was quickly found, because I got a Building from the last sale of the Miniatur Wunderland which I think suits the layout. It looks like a Bar / shop / Road House or what ever. Image

On a small piece of landscape I tried to get some grass on, I used a grass master compare to the Noch grass master. Image
I went to my model railroad dealer to buy some missing stuff, like ballast, rocks, some cows, and roos from Preiser. Back home I put the tracks down and glued them to the landscape. After that was done, the ballasting was next thing. First, I sprinkled the dry ballast over the tracks and, with help of a brush, distributed the ballast. The ballast was now glued inbetween the sleepers with a mix of white PVA mixed with water and some drops of dish washing detergent. Image

Part 2:
To get ride of the sharp edges on the layout I used some of the rocks and sand you put normally in the birdcage. This pic shows you the not coloured sand. The sand and rocks is also glue with the mix to the Diorama.

The next step was to make some Fencing posts. I used tooth picks, I lay them over night in small Glass with furniture stain. The next day I took them out and let them dry. Image
After the tooth picks are dry I cut the picks into the right length as posts. I know that in some fences the wire runs trough the post and some not. For me it was easier to drill small holes trough the post instead glue the wire to the post.

To show you one fencing post I mark one Post there the holes are.
Nearly all Aussie farmers like to have straight fences and the wire at the some height round the property, I don’t.
Sorry, about the fences I hope you can for give me.

As next was the gap in the Fence to enter the yard round the House.
I can´t remember what it´s called, but then you see it, you can help me. First I cut a hole in the isolation and painted the sidewalls in grey. The bottom of the pit I filled a bit with the sand. From the leftover of the tracks I cut 5 pieces with a length of 5 cm of to put over the pit. Image
To become an idea where I have to put the fencing posts in. I used some of them to mark the places with the posts. Image

Edit:Part 2

See ya
Thomo
